Welcome to The Welding Rods Page of the James F. Humphreys & Associates website. I'm Jim Humphreys. Welding rods contain the metal manganese. Manganese has been known for many years to cause manganese poisoning, or manganism. Manganese poisoning is a condition that is often misdiagnosed as Parkinson's disease. Some occupations involve much higher levels of manganese exposure than others. Welders, railroad workers, miners and steel workers are particularly likely to experience manganese poisoning, as their jobs frequently involve working with or near materials containing manganese such as welding rods. When workers have inadequate protective gear and ventilation, they can breathe in manganese fumes or dust. This poisons the body, especially damaging the central nervous system. This results in permanent impairment. Symptoms such as slurred speech, lack of facial expression and a shuffling gait are just a few that an injured worker will face for the rest of his life. If you have been diagnosed with Parkinson's, and have worked in these industries, you may have manganism.
We understand how devastating this diagnosis can be to a family. The workers at James F. Humphreys Associates can recommend a course of legal action for you and your loved ones in order to recover from injuries inflicted on you through no fault of your own.
